Lighting brand Anglepoise unveils its fifth and latest collaboration with renowned designer, Paul Smith. The Anglepoise + Paul Smith Edition Five, available exclusively from anglepoise.com and paulsmith.com from November, comprises two desk lamps (Mini and Standard size) and a floor lamp and builds on Paul’s ‘classic with a twist’ design philosophy.
Where previous Anglepoise + Paul Smith collaborations have maximised on Paul’s mastery of colour, the Edition Five takes a different approach and features the Artist Stripe on a pared back, pure black version of the Type 75 Anglepoise, itself designed by Sir Kenneth Grange.
Adam Wade, Technical Director at Anglepoise: “By creating a design that is head-to-toe black – from screws and fittings through to our signature springs – we bring focus to the purity of Kenneth’s Type 75 design. For the first time the Paul Smith Artist Stripe features on an Anglepoise lamp and so we also get an instantly recognisable flourish befitting of Paul Smith’s name. The Anglepoise + Paul Smith Edition Five is elegant, fun and just a little bit eccentric; a future classic in the making.”
The Anglepoise + Paul Smith Edition Five collection comprises three different lights: a standard size Type 75 desk lamp, a slightly smaller mini desk lamp as well as a floor lamp. All the new lamps will be available on anglepoise.com and paulsmith.com from the beginning of November.
This new collection comes at a time when Anglepoise has stepped up its commitment to combating a world without fast homeware through the introduction of its Lifetime Guarantee. Anglepoise has introduced the guarantee on all its products used in a domestic setting to stem the flow of products destined for landfill and remind people that good design goes beyond aesthetics. The heirlooms of tomorrow should be repairable, reusable and, as a last resort, recyclable.
In 1932, when vehicle suspension engineer George Cawardine invented a spring, crank and lever mechanism that could be positioned with the lightest of touches yet maintain its position once released, a blueprint for the first Anglepoise task lamp was born. The Anglepoise lamps have subsequently achieved iconic status and its engaging, anthropomorphic form is recognised and admired all around the world. Over the years, the Anglepoise lamp has been developed under the careful watch of the Terry
, without ever losing sight of its primary function and unique, characteristic form. From the creation of the Original 1227™ lamp, to the development of extended collections by esteemed industrial product designer Sir Kenneth Grange, to recent collaborations with renowned designers Paul Smith and Margaret Howell, incomparable British design remains at the heart of this progressive, British brand.
In 2020, Anglepoise introduced a lifetime guarantee available across its entire range. Anglepoise’s Guaranteed for Life is a promise to service and maintain any lights brought by domestic customers and is a response to the current trend of products built without longevity in mind and are destined for landfill.
